I hear and see lots of situations that need miracles – including stuff in my own life. I was talking with God about this whole topic of needing miracles yesterday and I was expressing some of my own needs in my prayers. It was an interesting time of prayer because I had the distinct impression that God is alwaysdoing miracles, even when we’re unaware. Some of God’s miracles are small & we can easily overlook them because of the busy-ness and demands of everyday living. Some of God’s miracles are camouflaged and aren’t as obvious because they’re not very dramatic. Some of God’s miracles are so big that we altogether miss the experience because we can be so easily focused on something that’s relatively minor. And sometimes we miss God’s miracles because we get too focused on our methods rather than leaving the method stuff in God’s hands. So God is always doing miracles because that’s Who God is – miraculous!
Here are some miracles to consider:
strength to go through a difficult season
wisdom in areas where we are totally inept
provisions that come in unexpected ways
healing from bitterness, hurts, unforgiveness, etc
nautre – sunrises, sunsets, ocean tides, the immensity of the universe and the minuteness of a quark
In the Bible, there are all kinds of things that happened because of faith (blind eyes healed, miracle provisions, raising the dead, family restoration, giant killing, etc). Whenever I read Hebrews 11, I’m always really stirred up and motivated in my faith because the chicks & dudes in this chapter are AMAZING!!! But here’s a simple essential to make our faith effective: genuine love.
In Galatians 5:6, Paul says that faith works by love. So whenever I’m not seeing the results of faith in my life, the real question doesn’t always rest on the quality / quantity of my faith, but moreso the reality of my genuine love. Perhaps the evidence of our faith is directly related to the sincerity of our love 🙂
I was thinking about the time when Peter walked on the water & Jesus rescued him from drowning. That must have been a totally amazing trek. Can you imagine how Peter felt when he was getting ready to step out of the boat? Excited, nervous, scared, jittery, lots of adrenaline, . . . . . Peter did something impossible, illogical, stressful, successful & epic when he walked on the water. Even though Peter did something amazing, I think that perhaps there may have been some stress & jitters running around in his mind – some quick conversations about doing something impossible & then he just did it.
Lets be careful not to talk ourselves out of Gods miracles just because there’s some stress & jitters that go along with these impossibilities 🙂
Friday, my husband & I were taking our son & his friend to ski for the day to celebrate my son’s bday. Unfortunately, we hit a really icey spot on the road & proceeded to lose control at 35-40mph. As we were slipping around the road, we missed an 18 wheeler semi, dodged all of the oncoming traffic as we slid perpendicular to the road, slipped into a ditch on the opposite side of the road & almost flipped into a mini-forest. When the car finally stopped, we checked & no one was injured and we could all climb out of the car. After the very amazing extraction of our car, we checked over the car & the only damage was that the front license plate was dinged up. We drove away from this crazy experience and went skiing for the rest of the day, even though my legs were still rather shakey during the day.
I’m crazy thankful to God for protection, miracles and care. Hopefully, our story encourages your faith and confidence that God is very engaged with our daily living, even when things don’t quite turn out as we had planned or hoped.
I read this morning about how Jesus multiplied the fish & loaves for several thousand people & how they were in total awe of Jesus’ power. The very next day, the crowd tracked Jesus down & had an interesting discussion with Him about the multiplied fish & bread miracle. After reading about this (John 6), it seems to me that the crowd was coming after Jesus to keep doing the free food thing – who wouldn’t want free food?!?
But here’s the real challenge for those of us who follow Jesus: let’s stay connected to Jesus not merely for what He does, but moreso for WHO He is, keeping our intimacy with Jesus healthy, vibrant & transformational 🙂
My mom was ministering in Karachi Pakistan last week & seeing some totally amazing things from God. She’s been going to Pakistan since around 1995 & has made more than 5 different ministry trips to various large cities throughout Pakistan. Here’s a quick summary of what happened last week:
Ministry Training School: she had more than 2,800 leaders come for a day of leadership training to help them be more effective with their ministries & outreaches
Political favor: she met with many key government leaders & had the honor to pray for healing for many of them & their families
Media favor: when she landed there were 6 different TV stations there to document her arrival & she was also on the front page of the English newspaper in Karachi
3 nights of city-wide healing meetings – there were approximately 90,000 in attendance on the 1st night, about 130,000 on the 2nd night & almost 200,000 on the 3rd night
lots of totally amazing miracles – deaf ears, blind eyes, back problems, paralysis, etc.
I write this because I know that God totally loves Pakistan & the Pakistani people. They are very wonderful & it brings tremendous joy to my heart to hear of God’s extravagant love being poured out on this wonderful nation. Let’s celebrate! 🙂
Ok, Reece said he didn’t want to go out for anything fancy for his bday, nor did he want a high fat dessert that would lie around the house to tempt him – so I felt a little constricted for his bday dinner. Thanks to Jesus, it all came out GREAT!!!! We had marinated flank steak, grilled veggies (very tastey), grilled artichokes, salad & grilled peaches w balsamic vinegar. Especially for me, I have to say that I was a) relieved & b) impressed!!!
It was a throw down, that wasn’t too expensive, was REALLY tastey & nothing was burned or under-cooked & it was all on time! This folks, is evidence of God moving in my life w positive results. I’d like to see Him increase His territory in my life – moving from “my” life to “this” life.
